About the Author

William Charles is a Boston-based author focused on LGBTQ+ historical fiction.

William writes epic historical fiction centered on LGBTQ characters, hidden lives, and the emotional cost of living in a world that punishes authenticity. Drawn to the people history left in the shadows, he creates sweeping, character-driven stories about love, family, class, power, and survival. His work is grounded in the belief that great storytelling can both transport readers and expand empathy, meeting people where they are while offering a deeper, more human view of the past.

The Bachelor Sage is his second novel, following Patches, and he is currently working on a prequel, The Chessmaster Sage, and the third book in The Sage Chronicles series, The Dandy Sage. His work explores themes of identity, love, and social dynamics across different historical periods, bringing nuanced perspectives to queer stories of the past. Bill is also a professional illustrator with a published book cover launching in Fall 2025 and is currently illustrating two children's books. Beyond his illustration work, he is a jewelry-maker who draws inspiration from his diverse artistic pursuits, and owns and operates a consulting firm for nonprofits. He currently resides in the Boston area, where the novel's early 1900’s high society setting comes alive through his intimate knowledge of the city's history and character.
